Painting Fundamentals
This class will introduce students to the basic fundamental principles of oil painting. Students will become familiar with the medium of oil paint, canvases and paint brushes. They will also learn how to use and care for their utensils. We will beging by tubing 11 values strings of oil paint. Working in value (white, black and raw umber), students will create a value chart, contrast comparrison chart, paint geometric forms and grisaille mastercopy paintings. A grisaille painting is what is commonly called an underpainting. The principles of light, value, form, proportion, perspective and composition will be observed.
