Cooley Studios offer classical academic fine art training for artist of all levels, beginner, intermediate and advanced. The training is geared toward each individual artist, allowing him/her to progress at their own pace.
Each class consist of several assignments that progressively increase in difficulty. With each assignment successfully completed, the student gain skill, knowledge and confidence. The goal is to help the student develop an accurate seeing eye, a hand with greater dexerity and an ever seeking mind, ultimately bringing these elements together to work in harmony.
Cooley Studios host weekly classes Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. Classes held on week days run 3 times each day, 10 am to 1 pm, 2 pm to 5 pm and 6 pm to 9 pm. Saturday classes times are 10 am to 1 pm, and 2 pm to 5 pm.
Each Class is offered one day per week for 6 consecutive weeks. These classes are offered in rotation throughout the year. Click on class hyperlink for class description, dates, time and registration.
We also offer Advanced training for serious art students interested in pursuing art and art education as a career. Artists interested in advanced training must successfully complete drawing fundamentals and figure drawing class, no exception. The student artists will work directly with Cooley in his studio for 4 hours per day for 6 months, a year or more. Classes are ongoing and the students can choose to stop when he/she has reached his/her desired goal or continue as long as he/she likes. Advanced training classes include: Charles Bargue Lithographic Drawings, Figure Drawing & Painting, Cast Drawing & Painting, Still Life Drawing & Painting, and Master Copying.
Cooley Studios is uniquely qualified to offer training in traditional and digital Illustration. This preparatory training is offered to individuals seeking to develop a portfolio for college submission. We also offer illustration training to artists looking to enhance their portfolio and diversify their skill set. Illustration training include: Medical Illustration, Scientific Illustration, and Commercial Illustration.
Cooley Studios will offer workshops as the schedule permits. They run from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm and last 1 to 10 consecutive days. Each workshop intensive will start with an introduction and demonstration of the specific technique to be taught by Cooley. Workshops include: Figure Drawing Approaches, Head Studies, Portrait Drawing from life & from photographs, Painting, Perspective and Drawing the figure in carbon pencil & white chalk on toned paper.
Guest workshops will be offered on occasion at Cooley Studios or another location depending on the guest presenter and the number in attendance. The number of days and time will vary depending on the guest presenter as well.
